January Arbor Lodge Newsletter

Message from the Chair

Happy New Year! I know 2025 was a challenging year for many reasons, I’m staying optimistic that 2026 will be better. In our neighborhood association meeting on Thurday (Jan 15) we’ll be talking about neighborhood concerns, our Arbor Lodge Tree Team, and discussing better ways to keep everyone engaged and continue improving our neighborhood. Have a talent or an area of passion you’d love to use to better Arbor Lodge? We’re all volunteers and some of those who are making the magic happen aren’t board members. We’d love to meet you!

Mark your calendars now, Portland City Councilor Sameer Kanal will be joining us for our February meeting (2/19/2026)!

In November I introduced one of our home-based businesses in Arbor Lodge, and I’ve learned of one more: LEANTO Architecture. I’m sure there are others, please let me know.

Thanks!

Kevin Micalizzi, Chair, Arbor Lodge Neighborhood Association

Arbor Lodge Shelter

Shelter Updates

  • Thank you to all of our neighbors who have generously donated cold-weather clothing to our shelter.
  • Light shields were finally installed to avoid light pollution for our neighbors.
  • Arbor is interested in finding a supply/labor volunteer in our community to help us install a free library outside our Denver/Lombard gate.
  • Arbor is happy to report that our Mural has been completed with an anti-graffiti coat applied.
  • Our CAC meetings have been going well, and we’re also collaborating with folks from Kenton.
  • Arbor is forecasting to take in participants from another one of our shelters, as they are closing in March.

In 2025, challenges and all, Do Good had lots to celebrate:

  • 102 Veterans have moved into permanent homes, the majority of which include wraparound supportive care to keep them housed. 312 individuals in total have moved into new homes.
  • Our Veteran Grant Per Diem program was the most successful in the state of Oregon at aiding houseless Veterans in their journey into permanent homes this year, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Our recently-opened North Portland Drop-In Center has already connected nearly half of St. Johns’ documented houseless population to shelter and housing services since opening in July.
