Arbor Lodge Newsletter – April 2026

Message from the Chair
It’s spring. Cleaning time and new allergens. We can’t do anything to help with the allergies, but there are ways you can help “spring clean” our neighborhood:
- Apr 18: Help Keep Arbor Lodge Park Spray Free & Beautiful. Arbor Lodge Park at N. Dekum. (10am-12pm)
- Apr 20: Arbor Lodge Shelter trask pickup. Arbor Lodge Shelter, 1954 N Lombard. Meet in the parking lot. (1:30-2:30pm)
- May 4: Arbor Lodge Shelter trask pickup. Arbor Lodge Shelter, 1954 N Lombard. Meet in the parking lot. (6:30-7:30pm)
I know it can be difficult to join the monthly neighborhood meeting, so I’ll try to share some highlights each month:
- The Arbor Lodge Shelter now has a Free Little Library, was able to help residents with the closure of the Y East Congregate Shelter, and the shelter trash pickups have kicked up.
- We heard from Mattt with Multnomo about their efforts to consolidate the City of Portland with Multnomah County.
- We discussed the areas of the neighborhood with persistent challenges and how we can address them, and everything the Arbor Lodge Tree Team is working on.
- Several grants we’ll be applying for to help continue providing support for our neighborhood.
- See the full meeting minutes.
Please consider joining us next Thursday, in person or via Zoom. We’re forming new committees for events and fundraising.
Thanks!
Kevin Micalizzi, Chair, Arbor Lodge Neighborhood Association

We’ve had some recent, unexpected challenges at Arbor Lodge Park. Parts of the xylophone and a bronze sculpture were stolen. The dog waste receptacle in the dog park area by Bryant Street was overflowing with bags around it.

If you notice anything wrong with the park, please don’t hesitate to let us know, call 311, or report it directly to Portland Parks.
Arbor Lodge Tree Team

Want to share your love of trees?
The Tree Team meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7pm to talk about trees and tree policies, and to plan events like tree walks and bike rides. We would love to have you join us! We meet at Double Mountain Brewing at 1700 N. Killingworth. Please check arborlodgetrees.org for more information.
Arbor Lodge Shelter
Shelter Updates
- Neighbors have donated a large planter for more flowers. We are looking for folks to donate flowers/seed to the shelter for our existing flower beds.
- CAC shelter supply needs list has been updated.
- The trash pick-up event has been going smoothly. Still looking for neighbors to join every 1st Monday (1:30 pm, meet in shelter parking lot) and 3rd Monday (6:30 pm, meet in shelter parking lot).
- The free library has been going strong! Feel free to pop by the shelter and pick up a book or donate one!
- The shelter is looking for more free or low-cost pet vaccination resources in the neighborhood or surrounding neighborhoods. Please feel free to send this information to srotbergs@dogoodmultnomah.org.

Recycling
If you’ve started your spring cleaning, please consider ways to Reuse, Repair, and Share.
Did you know that “tanglers” like plastic bags, ropes, cords, and clothing in your blue bin interfere with the recycling process?
