Update: October 21st 2018

It is with confidence I write this post. 

Last Thursday the Arbor Lodge Neighborhood Association held Elections and passed a Budget for this coming year. 

We also formed a new Air Quality/Environmental Committee.

Here are a some highlights:*  We still have 2 open positions on the Board for At Large members.  These positions ask you to attend the meetings, maybe lead a committee or activity, lend your opinion and voice to all discussions*  We changed our meeting day to the 3rd Tuesday of each month.  Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 20th at 6:30pm, Kenton Firehouse* We created a Communications Team to clean up our mailing list, make sure our blog posts work well, and any other communications is working well too*  Here are the Election results and some areas of interest for each person elected if stated by that person:Chair - Ginger EdwardsVice Chair - Mark Wyman, Communications and outreachSecretary - Lex BurlingTreasurer - Tim PapeAt Large Board members:Bob GreeneBeth StausSharon Parker - will do outreach to folks who sign up for our mailing list to explore interestsBrianda Pape - Communications, and will now lead Arbor Lodge Park pesticide/herbicide free work partiesRowan Wade - Transportation, which focuses on safety for bicycles, pedestrians, and cars, Rowan will be reaching out to Overlook NA and Adidas, come help him outNon Board member Susan Harris volunteered to lead the Clean Air/Environmental Committee, join up!*  Budget highlights include:** money to pay for an ADA Port a Potty at Arbor Lodge Park when the restrooms are closed for winter** Arbor Lodge Neighborhood Association received a $1,500 gift from the Portland Parks Foundation.  This money must be spent in/on the Park.  Come help us decide whether to use it to maintain the pesticide/herbicide free work parties, or for some other purpose (we would find other funding to maintain the work parties if we decide to use this money for something else at the Park).

Come check us out, we want to hear your ideas.  In December we plan some Holiday fun, and after our biz meeting in January we always have a potluck pie social.  Look for our Duncan Memorial Fruit Tree Giveaway in late February/early March.  Join the Tree Team and help us plant trees and deal with the invasive Tree of Heaven starts popping up all over Arbor Lodge.

Arbor Lodge ElectionsOctober 18th, 6:30Kenton Firehouse

Come check out the Arbor Lodge Neighborhood Association.  Learn what we do, invite us to do more.  We have openings on the Board for a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and several At Large positions.  Come volunteer.

Agenda:

*  Elections*  Approval of Budget for the coming year - see our ideas, influence the decision*  Brianda Pape - Arbor Lodge Park Pesticide Free work party on October 13th, 9-12*  Confirmation on Port a Potty for Park when restrooms shut for winter (if approved in budget)*  meeting day/time/place - could/should we change when we meet and where?

And some great ideas that came up at our Happy Hour

*  Bob Greene suggested we host some History Pubs, maybe a Vanport Discussion, and how about the Levy activity happening now?

*  Amber asked we continue outreach and set up a sharing time for AL residnets who work from home.

*  Nate suggested we reach out to Alexandra who used to be on the Board and was our contact with the AL Biz Association to see if it is still active.  

*  Dale stated that a group of neighbors is looking to create a pocket park on Jessup between Boston and Omaha.  This is an unimproved street way that can only be used by 4 wheel drive vehicles with high clearances.

*  Ginger brought an idea from Karen Beck - let's have an Arbor Lodge Art weekend or walk or something to highlight all the artists in Arbor Lodge.

Pizza will be provided to all.  Come share a slice and your ideas!

Sunday October 7: Arbor Lodge Happy Hour!

Come have a beer, meet your neighbors and learn about your neighborhood association! The Arbor Lodge Neighborhood Association's (ALNA) annual election is on Thursday October 18th. We're hosting a pre-election happy hour for anybody who may be interested in joining the board, volunteering in another capacity, or if you'd just like to enjoy a beer with your neighbors--all are welcome! 

Board membership is open to anybody who lives in Arbor Lodge, and is also open to anybody representing a local business, school, church, not-for-profit, or other type of organization located in Arbor Lodge. Basically, it's open to everyone.

Our purpose  (quoting from our bylaws) is to promote livability by providing information, promoting communication and engaging in activities between neighbors and all others interested in the general welfare of the neighborhood. 

Examples of our ongoing work include organizing volunteers to keep Arbor Lodge Park pesticide free, our annual picnic in the park, neighborhood clean-ups and sponsoring a portable bathroom facility for Arbor Lodge Park in the winter months. ALNA volunteers promote civic engagement by facilitating "neighborhood contact" meetings with developers, engaging government agencies such as the Portland Bureau of Transportation and offering public testimony on a range of issues impacting our neighborhood. 

Where we go and what we do in the future is up to you! The neighborhood association system, much like our city, is evolving and changing. We welcome your ideas, and your vision. 

We typically have more seats than candidates, so if you are not excited by the idea of competing with people you haven't met, don't be concerned! We are hoping our board reflects a diversity of perspectives, and life experiences so as to better serve the neighborhood.

A description of the positions is below. C'mon out this Sunday to meet the current board and to learn more.

ALNA has 4 officer positions, and up to 8 "at-large" positions that are open to anybody who is interested. Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings, and to participate in coordinating discussions (via e mail) as time permits between monthly meetings. Officer positions are described below. At large members may chair committees, represent the board at public meetings, or bring forward other projects.

     OFFICERS

A.  Chairperson:  The Chairperson shall be the principal executive officer of the ALNA and, shall in general, supervise all of the ALNA’s business and affairs, and shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors.  Specifically, the Chairperson shall:

1.         Prepare the agendas and chair all meetings of the Board            and Membership;2.        Sign appropriate correspondence and contracts for            Membership or Board approved business of the ALNA;3.        Sign checks as determined by Board policy.

B.   Vice-Chair:  In the event of the Chair’s inability to act on behalf of the ALNA, the Vice-Chair shall assume all powers and responsibilities of the Chair as described above.  The Vice-Chair may cover other activities upon request of the Chair.

C.   Treasurer:  The Treasurer shall perform or cause to be performed:

1.         Make deposits and disbursements according to procedure            determined by Board policy;

2.         Keep accurate and complete financial records;

3.         Provide an accurate accounting of the fiscal activity upon            demand;

4.         Be the primary signatory on all checks;

5.         Be in compliance with budget and finance policies as may             be adopted by the Board.

D.  Secretary:  The Secretary shall perform or cause to be performed:

1.      Record and maintain the minutes, including all votes and a summary of minority opinions, and all other written records of all Board and Membership meetings;

2.      Send approved copies of minutes to ALNA’s district coalition office, North Portland Neighborhood Services

3.      Post minutes to the ALNA website for public access;

4.      Track attendance of Board members for purposes of encouraging full participation.

Join your neighbors to learn about a new project planned for 6814 N Greenwich,between Dekum & Bryant.  Casey McGuirl of McGuirl Designs will present athree story, 19 unit apartment building.

The apartments will be priced as market rate rental housing, and will not provideoff-street parking. The development team will demolish the existing single familyhome, and will not preserve any of the existing trees.

This is your opportunity to provide feedback to the design and construction team,and to learn more about planned development in Arbor Lodge.
