Boys & Girls Aid | Seeking Foster Parents
Spreading the word:
You Can Help Oregon’s Foster Care Crisis
On any given day, there are 7,000 children in Oregon’s foster care system. Many of these children come from situations of abuse and neglect only to find themselves facing uncertainty and instability once they enter foster care.
Boys & Girls Aid, a nonprofit founded in Portland in 1885, wants to change that. We are looking for compassionate people to help improve the lives of children in foster care.
A good foster home is often the first place a child in foster care has felt safe in a long time. Foster parents help children build trust in adults and provide a supportive environment where they can thrive.
Boys & Girls Aid supports foster parents with responsive program staff available 24/7, ongoing free professional training, and generous monthly, tax-free stipends ranging from $1,200 to $3,500 per month. There are options to fit every family, from full-time placement to relief care a few days a month.
Fostering children might bring life changes and challenges, but it’s a great opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life — and in your own life, too. “It’s worth it to get to know these kids,” said experienced foster parents Jen and Chad. “It’s enriched our lives a lot.”

Land Use Update: New Proposal for 6606 N Maryland
11/23/2021 Update: We received new information at our neighborhood contact meeting on 11/18, and a PDF of the preliminary rendering (screen shot above). The new proposal is for a single 3-story building with 18 units (16 two bedroom and 2 one bedroom units). The exterior stairwells will face N Liberty St, and N Liberty will be paved in front of the apartment only. The developer hopes to begin construction this coming March or April. We’ll post notes from the meeting and any new information as we receive it here.
Original (edited) post: At our monthly online meeting Thursday November 18 we are hosting Alicia Jameson, from McGuirl Designs and Architecture, about their proposed development of two apartment buildings (total 30 units) at 6606 N Maryland Ave. Demolition of the preexisting single family home has been completed. No off-street parking nor loading zone is proposed (parking not required for sites with 30 units or fewer per City code, see page 3, loading zones not required for 40 units or fewer, see page 39) and it is uncertain if the project is NOT subject to the Inclusionary Housing requirement (required for buildings with 20 or more units). The ALNA Developer Questionnaire has been provided in advance. See additional information on the City's Neighborhood Contact page, and follow permitting on PortlandMaps.com.
