Neighbors Helping Neighbors PDX volunteer training
Neighbors Helping Neighbors PDX is offering a training for those interested in volunteering. Please see below from Patt at Neighbors Helping Neighbors for more information:
--
_Greetings!
We are offering a training for folks who are interested in volunteering with Neighbors Helping Neighbors PDX as we seek to provide less trash in our neighborhoods and safer/healthier environments for folks living outside. You may be interested in one-off special cleanup projects in your neighborhood or elsewhere in North Portland; or you may want to help Terrance Moses, our founder and operations lead, with regular trash collection rounds held twice-weekly throughout the year. However you choose to volunteer, just know that we truly appreciate your kindness and involvement in making a difference in our neighborhoods!
First, we need to make sure you will be safe as you volunteer with us. To do that, we provide a volunteer training that will cover the following:
Volunteer application, waiver, and other administrative documents to keep our records organized
Information so you can work safely and won't get hurt
Handy resources for locating helpful organizations that serve unsheltered folks
The next Zoom training is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 pm. The training is about one hour. At the close, you will receive an email with documents requiring your signature plus the resources and information that was covered in the training. I have also attached a copy of our FAQ brochure_ (below) _which has more information about how Neighbors Helping Neighbors PDX is organized and the services we provide.
Please (mailto: NeighborsHelp12@gmail.com) if you will be attending. If you have family, friends, co-workers or neighbors living in North Portland who may also be interested in attending the training, please feel free to forward this email to them. Everyone's welcome!
You can join us at this link:Feb 17, 2021 07:30 https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82283974490
I look forward to meeting you over Zoom!
Kind regards,

URGENT: Volunteers Needed to Staff Severe Weather Shelter
Please see the volunteer request below, via A Home For Everyone
--
Dear community members,
As we confront what likely will be our community’s most dangerous stretch of severe winter weather in years, we need your help to make sure our neighbors surviving outside can stay safe and warm. What we need most are volunteers to help work shifts at our severe weather shelters.
You can sign up for shifts at both our Arbor Lodge (www.signupgenius.com/go/arborlodgedrc) and Metro Garage (www.signupgenius.com/go/metrogaragedrc) shelter sites. We are particularly in need of overnight shift volunteers. Where you are asked to identify your organizational affiliation, please choose “other” and enter “community volunteer.”
We will be screening guests, staff and volunteers for COVID-19 symptoms at Arbor Lodge. The Metro Garage will not require guest screening because it is a covered open-air facility. However, all staff, volunteers and guests at both sites will be expected to follow physical distancing and masking requirements.
However, if you are feeling sick or if you are in one or more high-risk categories for COVID-19, we would encourage you NOT to volunteer. You can still help out by spreading the word about severe weather shelters, looking out for your neighbors, and donating much-needed cold weather gear through 211info.org/donations. For more information on symptoms and COVID-19 risk categories, please visit Multnomah County’s or the CDC’s websites.
Each shelter site’s signup page provides more information about the work and other requirements. Please review this orientation video and the Disaster Resource Center’s Shelter Packet for Volunteers to learn more about what your volunteer experience will involve. For more information about our COVID-19 safety protocols, please visit this guidance page. Staff will also follow up to provide additional resources and information.
Thank you for stepping forward to serve your most vulnerable neighbors during this crisis.
