In case you missed it - N Greeley Neighbors Showed Up Big Time
Thank you to the 60 neighbors who packed the Madrona Hill Cafe for a North Portland Traffic Safety Open House October 25th. Sharing stories of traffic impacts on our neighborhoods makes it clear that we have so much work to do to improve safety. Keep showing up! If we all work together, we can make our neighborhoods the safe, walkable, bikeable, playable places that make living here so beautiful. Thank you to BikePortland.org for showing up and writing about the event, to Madrona Hill for hosting, and our passionate neighbors for organizing.
We will be in touch with people who shared their emails with us to pull together a follow-up meeting in the beginning of 2018 - after the holiday season settles down. With that said, we offer some concrete short-term steps that people can take in the meantime:
Registering your concerns with the Vision Zero program: Call 503-823-SAFE.Signage: Sign up to bring home some of those orange "Slow Down" signs.
Continue to submit your concerns to our survey: HereFollow the Arbor Lodge Traffic Safety Google Group: Here.Creative Block Parties: Host an early-morning block party. It's as easy as completing an online permit request, paying $10, and setting up some barricades.
Intersection Repair: See pictures of Intersection Paintings that have been supported by the City Repair Project. Learn more about how they can help you with your own project here.
Advocate with State Reps: Show up to our State Representatives' Town Hall November 4: Please join Lew Frederick, State Senator, Oregon District #22, Representative Tawna Sanchez, and Tina Kotek for a town hall on November 4. They will debrief the 2017 session, discuss some community issues, and share what they’re hearing about the 2018 session. Bring your questions and priorities for North and Northeast Portland!
WHEN: Saturday, November 4, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
WHERE: PCC Cascade Campus, Terrell Hall Auditorium
(on the corner of N. Kerby and N. Jessup)
Track State funding for transportation and weigh in on behalf of traffic safety for all users: Follow the Oregon process for distributing money to transportation projects in the 2021-2024 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). Projects in the STIP are funded with taxpayer dollars, so ODOT is making every effort to get input from Oregonians about how they spend these funds. Check it out at oregon.gov/ODOT/STIP: On the website you can: Take a survey to provide input on funding priorities; Sign up for our STIP email list to get regular updates; Watch a new video to learn STIP fundamentals; Keep current by viewing videos and materials from the Oregon Transportation Commission meetings and read monthly STIP updates.

Tree Team October report
The Arbor Lodge Tree Team met this week - here is a very brief summary of our meeting:
**Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 8, 7pm at the Lucky Lab on Killingsworth come join us
We took action on 3 things:1. We will put together info on how to report a traffic sign obscured by either a tree or shrub to PBOT for pruning. We will encourage property owners to do their own pruning too. If PBOT does the work it does not require us to get a permit, or to haul the debris. We hope this will increase car/bike/pedestrian safety in Arbor Lodge and prune trees and shrubs for health.2. We are planning a "Tree Walk". We will announce this as soon as it is ready for walkers.3. We shared info with Urban Forestry about Arbor Lodge Park as they create the "story map" of the Park which will include Park Tree Inventory information. It will be published online. We may ask for a tri-fold pamphlet to distribute at ALNA events and to have in the Park Kiosk.
Other issues that need more discussion:1. We will publish the Tree-of-Heaven Eradication Now! website to encourage folks to remove this highly invasive tree asap.2. We may host our 3rd Spring Street Tree Pruning Event next April/May - will discuss in Nov.3. We may participate next year in Urban Forestry's Free Yard Tree Giveaway. This would be about a year from now in the fall. Free trees for private property - no permits required.4. We hope to participate in a Bureau of Environmental Services program next summer/fall to plant trees in front of commercial buildings and multi family buildings in Arbor Lodge. This is free and includes 3 years of watering to help the trees get established.5. We encourage everyone in Arbor Lodge to volunteer with Friends of Trees, even just a yard sign to promote their work. It all adds up to more trees in Arbor Lodge that offer us beauty, cleaner air, reducing our heat island issues, lower crime rates, higher public health outcomes - all documented via the US Forest Service and others.
