Save the Date and Sign Up: Join us for Parke Diem October 15th

Many hands make light work! Join us at Arbor Lodge Park/Harper's Playground, October 15th, 9-12 for Parke Diem, a day of service in Portland parks. Portland Parks Foundation provides us with extra tools, gloves, and snacks and beverages for this work party - plus free t-shirts and water bottles!

We will be weeding around trees and in planting areas, spreading bark mulch, flame weeding the curbing, sidewalk cracks, and the baseball infields - if we weed, we keep our park pesticide free and bee friendly.

We need at least 5 volunteers to make our project a success - will you be one of them?

To sign up (and to help us plan for food and receive your free t-shirt) please go to:parkediem.org

Then click on "neighborhood park projects"

Arbor Lodge Park should be the top left option

Fresh Fruit for Hungry Kids - Join the Donation Network

For 6 or 7 years the Arbor Lodge Neighborhood Association has been coordinating the collection of fresh fruit for the weekend back pack program at Chief Joseph Elementary.

We are doing it again this year.

Who gets a weekend back pack? Any child who clearly comes to school hungry on Monday mornings.

What do you do? You say, "Yes, I want to join the Donation Network."

You'll get an e-mail early in the month listing your week to donate and the number of individual pieces of fresh fruit to bring to the school by Wednesday noon that week. Last year it was 40 pieces each week. You might be asked to donate twice during the school year; most folks only need to donate once to cover all weeks.

You also will be asked to consider donating $5 gift cards (completely up to you) to Fred Meyer or the Grocery Outlet in late November. This helps kids eat over the long winter break, gives them autonomy in what they buy, and a lighter load to carry home when school lets out in December for the Holidays.

So, want to join us? Last year 22 of your neighbors contributed. If "YES," email Ginger at ginger.edws@gmail.com.

Update: September 9th 2016

October 8th Park/Playground work party moved to October 15th, 9-12 noonWe've moved the October 8th scheduled work party at Arbor Lodge Park and Harper's Playground to coordinate with the City Wide Parke Diem event the 14th and 15th.

Please consider signing up on line for Parke Diem at Arbor Lodge Park/Harper's Playground.  Just go to Parke Diem and scroll to find Arbor Lodge Park.

Why sign up online?  To get a T-Shirt and to confirm we have enough volunteers to be part of Parke Diem.  The Portland Parks Foundation supplies the T shirts, snacks, water, and sometimes a little extra bling.

What will we do October 15th?*  weed around trees - taking the circle out a little to keep mowers away from tree trunks*  spread bark mulch around the trees, low near the tree, higher at the outside edge*  weed and de-head flowers in Harper's Playground*  spread bark mulch there too* flame weed the baseball diamonds, infields, sidewalks, etc.  (you must be 18 to do this, have closed toed shoes, sign a waiver, and participate in a short training)*  weed around signs and spread bark mulch there too.

It is easy work, fun to meet neighbors, end the work party trying out the slide in the playground.

Questions, ask Ginger at ginger.edws!gmail.com  and Thank you!
