Portland Plan Hearings

The Planning and Sustainability Commission is seeking public participation regarding the proposed Portland Plan. There are hearings scheduled around the city, and the first one will be next week in North Portland.

The Portland Plan is a strategic plan to improve our city through setting goals and creating action items. The highlighted priorities to reach toward 2035:

  • Create well-paying jobs.

  • Advance social equity.

  • Improve educational outcomes.

  • Support health connected communities.

Crime Prevention

As you've likely heard, there have been some arson incidents recently in North Portland. Mark Wells, Crime Prevention Coordinator, spoke at our last neighborhood meeting and gave the following advice:

  • Test all smoke detectors

  • Remove anything flammable outdoors

  • Put away barbeque related items

  • Walk the perimeter of your house daily

  • Report anything suspicious

Most of the fires have started between 1:00 - 5:00 AM.  For emergencies call 911.  The non-emergency line is: 503.834.3333.

Tool Library Birthday Party

The North Portland Tool Library is celebrating their 7th birthday with a dinner party this Saturday, October 29th, from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Historic Kenton Firehouse. There will be local food and drinks, plus live music and a silent auction. Suggested donation is $7-10 per person. See you there!

Know Your Neighbor

There is a great opportunity to meet some people in our neighborhood at this Thursday's general meeting. A few items on the agenda for the evening are: a presentation from the Bureau of Planning & Sustainability about the City of Portland's new waste removal program, Crime Prevention Coordinator Mark Wells will talk about safety concerns, and the annual election of board members for our neighborhood association will take place. We hope to see you there!
